The vision of Healthy Highway
is to educate, motivate, and inspire children and families to make healthy choices. Founded by Wendy Cooper, a 30-year physical education teacher, Healthy Highway uses traffic-based concepts as a comparative for developing and practicing a healthy lifestyle for children and the entire family. The program's "Rules of the Road" addresses healthy eating, the importance of exercise, self-esteem, positive thinking, the importance of listening to what your body is telling you, and much more.
All 26 elementary schools in Oswego County currently participate in the Healthy Highway program, thanks to a three-year-long initiative, through collaboration of the Oswego County Health Department, Oswego Health, and the Shineman Foundation.
